WaterFurnace Geothermal Heat Pumps
WaterFurnace systems are designed for high-efficiency heating and cooling at your home or business. Powered by geothermal energy, nearly all WaterFurnace products meet or exceed the ENERGY STAR® requirements, delivering earth-friendly comfort you can feel great about.
What is Geothermal Energy?
Geothermal energy is heat from within the earth. This energy is accumulated from solar heat hitting the ground, the natural decay of materials in the soil, and the eternal burning of the planet’s core. Just a few feet below the surface, temperatures average between 50º-70º year-round thanks to geothermal processes—no matter the season.
How WaterFurnace Technology Works
WaterFurnace technology harnesses geothermal energy to provide efficient cooling and heating for homes and commercial spaces. Using a series of underground pipes called an ‘earth loop’, the WaterFurnace system draws from the underground reservoir of energy, concentrates it, and then transfers it into your home in the form of warm or cool air.
This technology can also be used to generate heat for your water heater tank. This optional upgrade can generate up to 50% of your hot water at a fraction of the cost. For higher volumes of hot water it may be ideal to install a dedicated hydronic unit.
About WaterFurnace Systems
WaterFurnace systems come in three basic configurations plus a fourth ‘combo’ type suitable for countless applications.
All-in-One Systems
These systems offer year-round comfort. They are built to provide heat in the winter and cooling comfort in the summer. All-in-One WaterFurnace ground source heat pumps can replace both traditional indoor furnace and outdoor air conditioning equipment with a single unit.
Hydronic Geothermal Systems
Water-based hydronic geothermal systems are useful for applications like radiant floor heating, domestic hot water, and melting snow or ice. They are often used to replace boilers and can also provide forced heating and cooling when installed with an air handler.
Split Geothermal Systems
A split geothermal system is ideal for applications that call for installation flexibility. These can be installed with a remote air handler for whole-house heating and cooling. The ‘splits’ in this type of system allow geothermal technology to be used in conjunction with a fossil fuel heating system in colder climates.
Combo Systems
While all-in-one forced air is typically the most cost-effective, many people prefer the luxurious warmth of radiant hydronic heat. Combination units allow property owners to get the best of both worlds, providing both soothing radiant heat and forced air—all from the same unit.
